Heritage Auctions set a new record for total sales in 2024, with $1.867 billion in sales for the year, behind strong sales in Comics and Comic Art, Sports, and Entertainment. The Comics and Comic art categories accounted for over $205 million.
In Comics and Comic Art, there were a number of record-setting sales, including a CGC 8.5 copy of Action Comics #1 that sold for $6 million, the auction record for a comic sale (see "New Record Price"); and a CGC 9.6 copy of Fantastic Four #1 that sold for $2.04 million, a record for the title (see “Record for ‘FF’ #1"). Top comic art sales included a Rob Liefeld page from New Mutants #98 that hammered at $960,000, the Lee Elias cover art for Black Cat Mystery #50 that sold for $840,000; and the John Buscema art for Wolverine (1988) #1, which sold for $600,000.
The Entertainment category had the biggest growth for Heritage in 2024, up to $102 million, 2.5 times the sales in 2023. Big events in the category included the sale of Judy Garland’s ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz, which sold for $38.6 million; and the Game of Thrones auction, which totaled $21.1 million in sales.
Heritage also handled the sale of the game-worn Babe Ruth jersey from Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, when he called his shot to deep center field, for $24.12 million.
