Fox has acquired the rights to James Wan’s graphic novel Malignant Man, which is published by BOOM! Studios. Wan is primarily known as a horror film director. He helmed the first Saw movie and help launch the Insidious and Conjuring horror film franchises. Wan wrote the 4-issue Malignant Man comic series (with Michael Alan Nelson), which BOOM! published in 2011 (with a graphic novel collection following in 2012).
According to Deadline, Wan will produce the Malignant Man project with an eye to direct the film once it receives the studio’s OK. The Malignant Man comic tells the story of a man who believes that he has terminal cancer, only to find out that his tumor has given him remarkable powers.
This deal is the latest to result from Fox’s "first-look" deal with BOOM! Studios (see "Fox Inks First Look Deal With BOOM!").
