CoolMiniOrNot has announced Rum & Bones, a pirate combat miniatures game, for release in Fall 2015. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.
Based on multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video games, the board game has players take control of fantastic pirate crews engaged in fierce combat. Players control the two pirate crews whose ships are locked in combat, with each faction trying to board and disable the enemy ship. The basic deckhands and bosuns of each crew are not directly controlled by players, but function as a constantly-replenishing mob of combatants. Players control the faction’s Heroes (Captain, Quartermaster, Swashbuckler, Gunner and Brute) who have unique attacks, abilities, and reactions that must be strategically employed to shift the tide of battle.
The box contains: 70 detailed 32mm-scale plastic miniatures, 2 Ship Boards, 15 Tiles, 20 colored miniature base inserts, 10 Hero cards, 2 Sea Creature cards, 60 Tide cards, 113 tokens, 8 six-sided dice and a rulebook. The game is for 2-6 players. MSRP is $99.99. Backer fulfillment is planned for July 2015, with trade release planned for later Q3 or early Q4.
The Kickstarter campaign, which began today, has already raised $109,884 from 1,173 backers ($93.68/backer average), easily surpassing its $50,000 funding goal in the first hour. Bonus items exclusive to the Kickstarter include five additional Heroes, alternate crew member mini sculpts, and plans for added "Mercenaries," which can be employed by any of the various factions in combat.
