According to Variety, MTV has committed to a Spider-Man animated series to premiere in the second half of 2002. The show will be produced by Sony Pictures Family Entertainment and Marvel Comics as an MTV primetime series. Coupled with the release of the Spider-Man movie this summer and a high level of promotional activity, this new series will push awareness of the Spider-Man character to a great demographic for pop culture stores, and if done well in that venue can add to the 'cool factor' for the character as well.
