Rhino Home Video has announced that the company has acquired the rights to the complete library of over 214 episodes of Art Clokey's Gumby television series.  The endearing stop-motion clay-animated character made his first appearance on the old Howdy Doody Show in 1955 before spinning off into his own Saturday morning series, The Gumby Show, which started in 1956 and lasted through the 1960s.  The All-New Gumby Show revived the character during the 1980s and was rebroadcast on many stations during the 90s.  Rhino has the rights to all of the various Gumby series and plans to release DVD boxed sets of the complete Gumby library as well as individual DVDs and VHS cassettes of the TV shows.

As more and more nostalgia-tinged television series are collected on DVD, opportunities for independent pop culture retailers continue to increase, especially when animation is involved (see 'There's Gold in Them Thar Old Cartoons').  Keep checking with ICv2 for information on the first Rhino Gumby collections as soon as it becomes available.
