Peter Takara, who programs the New York Anime Festival, has announced on the New York Comic Con blog that two highly anticipated anime releases from Bandai Entertainment, Code Geass and Lucky Star, will have their American premiers at the New York Comic Con.  Lucky Star and Code Geass join the Right Stuf/Nozumi's Emma as anime series that will get their first U.S. showings at the NYCC.

Code Geass, a 50-episode anime series from Sunrise, which will air on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim later this spring (see 'Bandai Acquires The Girl Who Leapt Through Time'), is an alternate history saga in which Japan is conquered by the Empire of Brittanica -- but a rebellion led by an embittered Brittanian Prince name Lelouch just might have a chance to overthrow the invaders with the help of the mysterious power of Geass.  With character designs by Clamp (the first time the manga supergroup has designed characters for a series that they didn't create), this series from the same writer/director team (Ichiro Okouchi and Goro Taniguchi) responsible for Planetes has a chance to be one of the biggest North American anime releases of 2008.

Produced by Kyoto Animation, the hot anime studio of the moment, Lucky Star follows the adventures (and misadventures) of a group of high school girls led by Konata Izumi, a female otaku who works at a cosplay caf?. With a moe quotient as high as Mount Everest, Lucky Star is easily one of the most highly anticipated anime series among hardcore anime fans.
