According to The Hollywood Reporter Marvel Animation is producing 26 episodes of a new “super stylized” animated series known as Marvel Super Hero Squad. Film Roman, the company that creates the animation for The Simpsons, will provide production services for the new series, which Marvel hopes to have on the air in 2009. Two other Marvel-based animation series, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Iron Man: Armored Adventures are both set to debut on Nicktoons in the spring of 2009.
The Marvel Super Hero Squad will include Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Thor, Captain America, and the Fantastic Four, all of whom, for the purposes of this series, live a place called "Super Hero City" and engage in basically humorous adventures while battling a number of Marvel villains including Doctor Doom, Magneto, Loki, and the Abomination. The emphasis on humor and the super stylized figures (some might call them “super-deformed”) signal that the Marvel Super Hero Squad is targeted at a very young audience (6-8 years old). Hasbro is already producing Marvel Super Hero Squad action figures and Marvel plans to begin publishing a Marvel Super Hero Squad comic book in the fall.
