Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat (see “Doctor Who at Comic-Con”) told an audience at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival that a feature film based on the show could happen.  “It would be good to see it in the cinema as long as it is great and fantastic,” he told the audience, but insisted that the TV show is still the #1 use of the property, saying that a film could be made "as long as it doesn’t get in the way of the show."

There were two Doctor Who feature films released in the 60s, as well as a TV movie in the 90s.

 

The show is currently between the fourth and fifth seasons in the UK; the fifth season will not air there until 2010 (see “Doctor Who Going on Hiatus”).  Nearly 10 million people watched the fourth season finale in the UK
