According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mandalay Pictures, 300 producer Mark Canton and Liquid Comics are working together to bring Liquid Comics’ Ramayan 3392 A.D. to the big screen. John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) is writing the screenplay, which is based on the post apocalyptic re-imagining of the Sanskrit epic the Ramayama that was originally published by Virgin Comics. A third graphic novel collecting the Ramayan 3392 A.D. comics is due out in November.
Liquid Comics acquired Virgin Comics in a management buyout (see “Virgin Comics Acquired”) and has inherited a number of movie projects in various stages of development. The one-shot Virulents comic is set up at Regency (see “Virgin Catches a Movie Deal”), and The Gamekeeper is at Warner Bros. with Guy Ritchie directing and Joel Silver producing (see “Ritchie to Direct Gamekeeper”).
According to The Reporter the Ramayan 3392 A.D. comic is also being developed as a MMORPG (massively multi-player online role-playing game) by Sony Online Entertainment.
