According to The Hollywood Reporter Matt Johnson has been hired to write a screenplay based on the Red Five Comic’s series Afterburn.  Johnson penned the high octane script for Warner Bros.’ motorcycle drama Torque and the action thriller Into the Blue for Columbia.  The Afterburn movie is being produced by Neal (The Fast and the Furious) Moritz’s Original Films and Tobey Maguire’s Maguire Entertainment (see “Tobey Maguire Hot for Afterburn”). 

Afterburn, which is written by Red Five Comic co-founders Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood, is a full bore science fiction adventure set in a future world in which the Eastern hemisphere has been “fried” by a giant solar flare and a team of intrepid treasure hunters are attempting to rescue precious items such as the Mona Lisa and the Rosetta Stone.
