Borders cut its store staffs by 742 people on Thursday, over 3% of its workforce.  The cuts came on top of 30% cuts to its corporate staff (see “Layoffs Thursday”).   Cuts were primarily to “leadership” positions, which included sales managers, inventory managers, training supervisors, and merchandise supervisors. 

Downsized employees are getting severance and transition pay.
