Variety is reporting that even though J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the Star Trek franchise doesn't debut until May 8th, Paramount is already working on a sequel with Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions.  The studio has hired Damon Lindelof, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman to write a screenplay for the next Star Trek film.  Orci and Kurtzman wrote the script for Abrams’ Star Trek film, while Lindelof and Abrams co-created the Lost TV series.  Lindelof did not work on the Trek screenplay, but he has teamed with Orci and Kurtzman on an adaptation of the Platinum’s Cowboys & Aliens comic book for Dreamworks.

According to Variety the trio is looking to turn in the script for the Trek sequel by Christmas and Paramount hopes to release the film in the summer of 2011.  At this time it is not known if J.J. Abrams will direct the sequel.  Paramount has put a lot of effort into rebooting the Star Trek franchise and the studio has high hopes for its May Star Trek release.
