According to Mark Millar the start of production on a sequel to Kick-Ass is still at least nine months off since director Matthew Vaughn has to complete X-Men First Class for Fox before embarking on Kick-Ass 2.   The sequel was in the works well before the independently produced first film opened (see “Kick-Ass Sequel”), and it does look like it will get made.

While Kick-Ass did top the box office (barely) during its first weekend of release, it appeared to do better with critics than audiences and faded rather fast.  Still the film earned nearly $100 million worldwide against a cost of just $28 million, and Millar told MTV that film's producers predict that it will earn $100 to $150 million on DVD based on sales in the U.S. where it topped all three home video charts during its debut on disc (see “Kick-Ass Nabs DVD Trifecta”).

Using the rule of thumb that a movie has to earn twice its cost to break even, it appears that Kick-Ass, while no 300, has been quite profitable.  Meanwhile Titan has just published the first issue of Millar’s new comics magazine CLiNT, which includes a preview of Kick-Ass 2 (see “Millar Launching New UK Comics Mag”).
