After a 9.6 graded copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, which features the first appearance of Spider-Man, went for $1.1 million setting a sales record for Silver Age comics (see “'Amazing Fantasy' #15 Sells for $1.1 Million”), it probably should come as no surprise that a 9.9-graded copy of Incredible Hulk #181, which features the debut of Wolverine, should sell for $150,000. 

 

Still the sale represents a new high water mark for a “Bronze Age” comic.  No comic published in the 1970s has ever sold for more than this book, which is the highest-graded copy of Hulk #181 in existence.  The sales was brokered by ComicLink, and in a press release announcing the sale, ComicLink’s president Josh Nathanson noted that the sale demonstrated the enormous popularity of the Wolverine character and “the strength of the market for top graded keys.”
