Talking with Jimmy Fallon on Friday’s Late Night show, Avengers 2 director Joss Whedon explained why he is so keen to bring the brother/sister superhero duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to his sequel to The Avengers. "Aside from the fact that I grew up reading them, their powers are very visually interesting. One of the problems I had on the first one (Avengers movie) was everybody basically had punchy powers: 'I can hit!' 'I can also hit.' Coming into the second one, he’s got super speed (Quicksilver), she can weave spells, do a little telekinesis, get inside your head--there's good stuff that they can do that'll help sort of keep it fresh."
Quicksilver is quickly becoming one of Marvel's "most-wanted" cinematic characters. Just last week Bryan Singer announced that Evan Peters would portray Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is slated to debut on July 18th, 2014 (see "Quicksilver in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'"). Singer's announcement came just days after Whedon declared that he wanted lightning quick character for Avengers 2 (see "Whedon Confirms Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch in 'Avengers 2'"). With Whedon’s Avengers 2 slated to premiere on May 1st, 2015, could there be dueling Quicksilvers portrayed by different actors working for projects at different studios?
