San Diego Comic-Con News: In preparation for the San Diego Comic-Con, Dynamite Entertainment has announced the November debut of Army of Darkness #1992.1, a squarebound, double-size issue that celebrates both the 10th anniversary of Dynamite Comics and of Dynamite’s flagship title Army of Darkness, which is based on the 1992 dark fantasy film that Army of Darkness #1992.1 celebrates with its unconventional numbering.
Dynamite is celebrating its tenth anniversary of AoD by utilizing a team of writers that ranges from Jim Kuhoric, who wrote some of company’s earliest comics, to Steve Niles, who recently came on board to revamp the AoD comic by taking it back to its medieval roots as the smart-mouthed, time-traveling, demon-fighting Ash Williams takes on the same sort of Dark Ages demons that Bruce Campbell (as Ash) defeated in the Sam Raimi-directed AoD movies (see "Steve Niles to Revamp Dynamite's 'Army of Darkness'").
Other scribes who are contributing new stories to Army of Darkness #1992.1 include Elliot Seranno (Army of Darkness) and Mike Raicht (Dark Shadows), and Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Deadpool). The double-size Army of Darkness #1992.1 will be solicited in the September issue of Diamond’s Previews for shipment to retailers in November.
