Hachette Book Group’s Yen Press imprint announced it will be publishing the English language version of the manga adaptation of Disney’s animated film Big Hero 6.  The launch date for the U.S. release has not yet been determined.  The film will release November 7th (see "New 'Big Hero 6' Action Trailer").

The source material from Marvel on which the characters are based will not be released in the U.S., however, nor will any new material featuring the characters, according to NewsaramaMarvel Editor in Chief Alex Alonso explained in a CBR interview that the Disney Animation version was too far away from the source material to make the Marvel version a fit.  "Releasing material that would be viewed as movie tie-in product would be a disservice to filmgoers," he said.  "We wanted the Disney folks to be able to create their own unique style and story, unencumbered by those older stories."

As we noted at the time, Disney began calling the characters "Disney heroes," not "Marvel heroes," when it announced a Big Hero 6 character presence in its parks last month (see "Disney's Marvel Movie Park Promotion").

The manga adaptation by Haruki Ueno (Exile Monogatari) is being serialized in Kondansha’s Magazine Special beginning with the September issue (see "Confessions of a Comic Book Guy--A Nuclear Powered Car!  A Ray Gun!  He's Awesome!").  Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine ran an "Episode 0" prologue on August 6th.
