Variety is reporting that Fox has assigned Matthew Weiss to write a script for a film based on Emily the Strange, the 13-year-old Goth girl created by Rob Reger.  From her humble beginnings on promotional stickers in 1993 the stark and sullen teenager has made the transition from quirky graphic design to multi-million dollar-generating icon with three bestsellers from Chronicle Books and a quarterly book from Dark Horse Comics.

Although the film is being produced by Fox Animation, according to Variety it will be primarily live action with 'some animation elements.'
