GTS Distribution has told ICv2 that the final wave in the immersive Perplex City CCG will be shipping in June and will be available in all world markets at the same time.  Created in England by Mind Candy, Perplex City, which has been nominated for two Origins Awards, is a like a giant treasure hunt with a $200,000 prize in which players have to solve one puzzle after another (see 'Perplex City: An Alternate Reality CCG').  Wave 4, which ships in 36-count booster boxes (retailers get a 50% margin), will mark the end of Season I, but the game will continue into a Season II, which will commence shortly after the end of Season I and will have a new prize and structure.  The formal end of Season I will come when a player discovers the Receda Cube, which is an actual physical object that has been hidden somewhere on this planet.

Because of the nature of the Perplex City cards ($4.99 per pack), which contain many different kinds of puzzles, mazes, and riddles, this is a very cerebral game with a large component of female players (fully one-third of the player base).  The number of players is also growing quickly--it's up to nearly 27,000 today from just under 18,000 in mid-March.  Because the puzzles are challenging and fun to solve GTS thinks some players will continue with Season 1 even after the discovery of Receda Cube.

GTS is offering a Perplex City Introbox (MSRP $39.99), which is a great way to get started in the game, and which contains an album, 4 booster packs, a Travel Guide to the first 24 hours, Issue #0 of the Perplex City Magazine, and a CD with electronic 'House' music spun by a world famous DJ, who includes clues among the tunes.  The Introbox also includes a lapel pin, also known as a 'Leitmark.'  These pins denote a player's rank in the Perplex City Academy, and as the player solves puzzles and post solutions on the various Perplex City Websites, Mind Candy sends them higher level Leitmarks.

The various Perplex City Websites include the Perplex City Sentinel (a newspaper page), the Perplex City Academy (providing training for players), and Scarlett Kite (the blog of a character who answers questions about Perplex City).
