According to Variety, Warner Brothers is developing a new Tarzan movie and is in negotiations with Guillermo del Toro to direct and John Collee to write.  The Hellboy writer/director is currently working on Hellboy 2 and del Toro's Pan's Labyrith was just nominated for a Golden Globe.

 

If signed, John Collee (Master and Commander and Happy Feet) will be writing the script on his own, but del Toro has definite ideas about the film's content and believes there are untapped elements from the original Edgar Rice Burroughs material for this project. 

 

Other recent projects for del Toro include the screen adaptation of Deadman, (see 'Two DC Comics-Based Films Announced') and Hellboy 2 (see 'Universal Picks Up 'Hellboy 2'') which is slated for release in summer 2008.
