Fantasy Flight Games has announced Twin Shadows, a new expansion for its popular Star Wars: Imperial Assault board game (see “'Imperial Assault'”), as well as three new Ally and Villain Packs featuring R2-D2 and C-3PO, Boba Fett, and Kayn Somos. All releases are planned for late Q2 release.

Twin Shadows introduces new content for both the campaign and skirmish sides of the tactical miniatures skirmish and RPG-style missions game. There is a fully formed mini-campaign which challenges the Rebels to rush to Han Solo’s aid, and a battle through a Mos Eisley cantina for the skirmish game. Two new heroes join the Rebels, and the Empire adds Heavy Stormtroopers and Tusken Raiders to its side.  The box will contain 10 sculpted plastic figures, 12 double-sided map tiles, and more than 60 new cards.  As an expansion, it requires the base game to play. MSRP is $39.95.

The three Ally and Villain Packs will include R2-D2 and C-3PO ($14.95), Boba Fett ($9.95), and Kayn Somos ($9.95).  The packs feature plastic miniatures which replace the tokens found in Twin Shadows expansion, and supplement campaigns and skirmishes with new cards and missions.

Despite an extremely abbreviated launch window (December), the Star Wars: Imperial Assault managed to secure the #4 spot on ICv2’s hobby channel Top 10 Board Game chart for the Fall/ Holiday 2014 season (see “Top 10 Hobby Channel Board Games--Fall/Holiday 2014”). FFG announced in December that the game would join tournament organized play this spring (see “'Star Wars: Armada' and 'Imperial Assault' Added to OP”).
