The takeover of culture by everything comics continued to expand on Sunday as Fun Home, the musical based on the bestselling graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel, won five Tony Awards including Best Musical.  The other awards were Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.

The musical opened Off-Broadway in October 2013 and played for over a year.  It then opened on Broadway this April with a nearly identical cast.

The 2006 graphic novel has been jumping up in sales recently, charting in the BookScan Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels list (provided exclusively to ICv2 by Nielsen BookScan) three times in the first five months of this year (see, most recently, “May 2015 BookScan – Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels”).
