Twentieth Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have announced development plans for a Mega Man film, Tracking Board is reporting.

Though details are scarce, the article says Crunchyroll owner Peter Chernin (see "Crunchyroll Sold") will produce, and David Ready and Michael Finfer will oversee the production.  The team has overseen the ongoing Planet of the Apes film franchise, including the upcoming War of the Planet of the Apes (2017).

The Capcom video game property debuted in 1987, and a new console game, Mega Man Legacy Collection, released last month.  The property has been licensed  in various forms in the U.S., including manga from VIZ Media, videogame art books from UDON Entertainment, American comics from Archie, as well as  a UFS CCG and an upcoming board game (see "'Mega Man:  The Board Game'") from Jasco.

Dentsu Entertainment and Man of Action are developing an animated TV series for global release in 2017 (see “New 'Mega Man' TV Series”).
