Rupert Wyatt will not direct Gambit, according to Deadline. Wyatt departed the production after the shooting schedule changed, moving the start to March, which conflicted with another (un-named) project. Wyatt was signed back in June, coming off a very successful Rise of the Planet of the Apes (see "Fox Snaps 'POTA' Helmer for 'Gambit'").
Fox remains committed to the film and its cast, ChanningTatum (see "Channing Tatum Closes 'Gambit' Deal") and Lea Deydoux (see "Bond Girl Seydoux Cast in 'Gambit'"), and will move quickly to replace Wyatt, according to the report.
Producer Simon Kinberg just revealed that Gambit will be part of the shared Fox universe that includes X-Men and Deadpool, via MTV News. Fox superhero movie maven Simon Kinberg revealed that Deadpool would be in the same universe as the studio’s X-Men films last year (see "'Deadpool' Film To Be Part of Shared Universe").
No info was released on why the shooting schedule was moved from November to March. With the later shooting schedule, it seems hard to believe the film will make its scheduled October 7, 2016 release date (see "Best in Shows – Q4 2016").
