Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns) will play a student who finds a magical notebook that allows him to kill people just by writing their name on its pages. As the body count rises, a reclusive police detective is sent to track him down.
Warner Bros. acquired the rights to produce a live action movie in the U.S. in 2007. The film has been in development since then, with Adam Wingard being signed to direct in April (see “ New Director for 'Death Note' Feature”).
There have been three Japanese live action adaptations produced (see “'Death Note' Movie Gets Theatrical,” “'Death Note II' on 400 Screens,”and “Death Note Theatrical Event”).
The Death Note manga has been a perennial bestseller since its English debut in 2005 (see “'Full Metal Alchemist' Tops BookScan”). It ranked at #5 on ICv2’s most recent manga chart (see “Top 10 Manga Franchises--Spring 2015”).
