The new board game has several new game elements and follows a storyline written by Erik Burnham (the Ghostbusters comic) inspired by Vigo the Carpathian from the Ghostbusters II movie. Once again affected by mood slime, New York City has been struck by earthquakes, riots, and fires, all of which are explored in map tiles in the game. Also in the game are Slime Blower Pack Ghostbusters, Ooze entities that can split and reform, Ecto Goggles, Portal Destabilizers, and more.
The game is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign beginning in April. The original Ghostbusters: The Board Game was also funded on Kickstarter (see "'Ghostbusters: The Board Game'"). That Kickstarter campaign was so successful it reached the Top 10 Tabletop Game Kickstarter list at the time, raising over $1.5 million (see "Top 10 Tabletop Game Kickstarters"). The results from the game's trade release wre not as strong; Ghostbuster: The Board Game did not crack ICv2’s Top 10 Hobby Channel Board Games chart last season (see “Top 10 Hobby Channel Board Games--Fall 2015”).
