IDW Games has announced new licensed board game for The Godfather. The Godfather: A New Don will release this summer.
Designed by Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim (Orphan Black, Belfort), the area control game has players take over as boss of one of the major mafia families to try to assert enough power over 1950s New York to take over as the kingpin of organized crime. Players use a unique dice mechanic where each round, they roll individual dice pools and decide what area of the city they wish to capture. However, the current Don can steal dice from their pool. There are multiple ways the dice can be used to turn a bad roll into an opportunity to exact vengeance on rivals.
"We've come up with a special blend of strategy and negotiation mixed with just the right amount of luck to capture the feeling of the crime families vying for control of New York. I really enjoyed tying the facets of the film into the game's mechanisms." said Sen-Foong Lim.
The game is for 3 – 6 players, and plays in roughly 45 minutes. MSRP was not announced.
IDW and Pandasaurus also just announced Wasteland Express Delivery Service (see “Post-Apocalyptic Future-Western Board Game”).
