Comics news site ComicBookResources.com has been acquired by online publisher Valnet Inc., the companies announced today.   The editorial team and the Los Angeles office will be retained, according to the announcement.  Price was not disclosed. The sale was brokered by WeBrokr.com.

Valnet operates a range of content sites, including Screen Rant, The Richest, Baby Gaga, and others.  Of Valnet’s portfolio, Screen Rant is the closest to CBR in terms of audience.  “The acquisition of CBR will further strengthen Falnet’s position as a leader in the [entertainment] vertical,” the announcement said.

Founded in 1995 by Jonah Weiland, Comic Book Resources is the largest fan site for comics and related topics (CBR also does a lot of entertainment coverage), far ahead of competitors Newsarama or Bleeding Cool in audience size.

One-time category leader Newsarama was acquired by Imaginova in 2007 (see “Imaginova Acquires Newsarama”), a company that also owns other sites including Space.com.
