The CW has announced launch dates for its four series tied to the DC Universe, and has cast Superman to appear in Supergirl, signaling a shift in DC-based television.  The new seasons of the four series will all premiere within a 10 day period in early October:

  • Tuesday, October 4:  The Flash
  • Wednesday, October 5:  Arrow
  • Monday, October 10:  Supergirl
  • Thursday, October 13:  DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

This new schedule gives DC four nights on the CW (that means there’s three left!).

Supergirl’s move from CBS to the CW (see “Supergirl & Riverdale to the CW”) isn’t the only big change in DC’s TV roster.  The CW has also revealed that actor Tyler Hoechlin (Everybody Wants Some, Teen Wolf, Road to Perdition) has been cast to play Superman in Supergirl, and will appear in the first two episodes of the new season.

"Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman," Supergirl Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg said of the move. "We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character."

This represents a significant change in DC Entertainment’s TV strategy; the company had previously been unwilling to allow its Big 3 characters (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman) to appear with lesser members of the pantheon in their TV series.
