Stonemaier Games has announced release information for the competitive legacy-style game, Charterstone.

Originally announced last May (see “New Legacy-Style Game ‘Charterstone’”), Charterstone will release late this year, in Q3 or Q4. This week, Stonemaier revealed more details about the game designed by Jamey Stegmaier, creator of the surprise hit Scythe and co-designer of Viticulture.  The new game will support 1 to 6 players, ages 10 and up, and will have an MSRP of $70.00.

Charterstone uses a programmed learning system: There is no rulebook in the box, instead the players simply begin playing and learn as they go along, following the instructions in the 75 “crates,” which are opened during the course of the game.  Over a series of games, the players create a village in a fantasy world, adding more components from the crates.  Altogether, the game includes more than 350 cards, 230 wooden tokens, and 36 metal coins.

The game also features a branching storyline, in which the decisions made by the players will guide the course of the narrative, resulting in long-term changes to the game.  The legacy elements of the game play out over a series of 12 games, at the end of which the players will have their own unique worker-placement style game.  Each game will take about an hour to play.

Charterstone will not be offered for pre-orders from Stonemaier or through Kickstarter, instead being released directly into hobby distribution.

Stonemaier recently licensed the IP from another Stegmaier game, Euphoria to Overworld Games (see “‘Leaders of Euphoria’ From Overworld Games”).
