The first volume of Run, the late Congressman John Lewis’s continuation of the graphic novel autobiography he began with the March trilogy, has been scheduled for release August 3, around two years after the originally scheduled date.
The project has also gone through some changes beyond the release date since the project was announced in February of 2018 (see "Abrams Announces Follow-Up to Congressman John Lewis Trilogy"). Congressman Lewis passed away last summer, but had presumably finished work on this volume, and perhaps on others in the series, by that time. Co-writer and Lewis aide Andrew Aydin, who co-wrote March, remains the co-writer of Run as planned. The art team, originally announced as Afua Richardson with contributions by March series artist Nate Powell, is now credited as debut graphic novel artist L. Fury, and Nate Powell.
Sales expectations are robust. March has been a consistent best-seller as single volumes and box set, with big surges when then-new President Trump took aim at Lewis early in his term, and again last summer after his death raised the profile of the autobiography. With the heightened awareness of Lewis’s legacy surrounding his relatively recent death, the current battle over voting rights, Lewis’s signature issue, in his home state of Georgia, and the continuing public focus on issues of racial justice that took a big jump with the George Floyd/Black Lives Matter protests last summer, Run seems to have a clear runway for a big launch and holiday season.
The 160-page b/w 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" trade hardcover will retail at $24.99.
