Among the announcements that WizKids made at Games Expo was the news that it will be substantially retooling its HeroClix line to address problems and improve the product line in an attempt to revive sales.

The HeroClix rarity scheme, which WizKids brand manager Mark Tuttle described as currently 'not industry standard or clear,' will be clearly labeled with a tab on the base of each character, beginning with Marvel HeroClix:  Avengers in June.  The tab will include the set symbol; the rarity level will be labeled by its color, with white indicating common, green uncommon, silver rare, and gold super-rare.

The number of characters per set will be increased from 40 to 60 plus one promo figure (for the ClixBrick promotion).

Packaging will also be changed, with a larger package including five HeroClix figures and character cards plus a bonus card element for a $9.99 MSRP.  This should help avoid damage in transit, and will provide better value with each package.

ClixBricks will be 10 boosters; cases will include two bricks.

WizKids has also eliminated the glued-on hanger hooks on booster packaging;  the new hangers will be cut into the cardboard, making the hangers more secure.

Art for the Marvel HeroClix: Avengers packages is by David Finch.  The set will be promoted with Coming of Galactus events (see 'WizKids' Coming of Galactus Events').

Each package will also now include character cards.  Character cards will explain the powers of the character and provide background information.  In some cases the cover art from the first appearance of the character will be displayed.  Characters cards will also include themes, which are special keywords for every character beyond just a team ability.

WizKids was happy with the response to its surprise inclusion of the Marvel Zombies figures in its recent Marvel HeroClix set (those figures have commanded prices in the $90 to $120 range in the aftermarket), and is continuing to look at ways to keep the excitement in the HeroClix brand.

DC HeroClix:  Justice League will carry on all of the above changes into the DC HeroClix line.  It's due for release late this summer.
