At San Diego Comic-Con, IDW told ICv2 about more new projects on the way (see 'IDW Reviving Favorites')  including Locke & Key by horror author Joe Hill, a new series related to the Igor movie, a new Angel series, and some Transformers and Star Trek news.

IDW has signed rising star Joe Hill to write Locke & Key.  Hill is a bestselling horror author (Heart-Shaped Box, 20th Century Ghosts) and just so happens to be Stephen King's son. According to Publisher Chris Ryall, 'He's this new horror writer who writes in an almost a Gaiman-esque sort of way, where he brings in elements of fantasy and horror that transcends both.  He was outed by his publisher as Stephen King's son, but when we discovered him it was just Joe Hill, this new horror writer.  This new book is created by him and written by him, and the art is going to be handled by Gabriel Rodriguez, who's currently doing Beowulf, and he did Clive Barker's The Great and Secret Show.'

Locke & Key tells the story of a troubled family trying to escape from their lives to a house on Cape Cod. Ryall explained 'They find these keys where each unlocks a different door that takes them to different places, transforms them, and each key has a different effect on their life. It's really a wonderful story.'

IDW also announced plans to launch a new Angel series based on the canceled TV series in November called Angel: After the Fall.  Joss Whedon is plotting the story and Brian Lynch (Spike) will write the series, which will resolve the apocalyptic cliff-hanger episode from the end of season 5 and then provide fans with a season 6 in comic book form. IDW has been publishing Angel comics based on the show since 2005, but this should be their most important and popular adaptation so far.

IDW also announced plans to launch a multi-part prequel in May or June leading up to the animated Igor movie release in October 2008 as well as an adaptation.  Ryall said Igor is 'based on the idea there is a town where everyone is a mad scientist and they all have their own Igors. Some of them are more competent than others.' The movie will star the voice talents of John Cusack, Molly Shannon, Steve Buscemi, John Cleese and Jay Leno, among others.

Igor is another example of IDW's attempt to seek younger audiences, and Ryall pointed out that, 'Obviously, Transformers was a good start.'  Along with Transformers books based on the animation coming out in January, IDW also has plans for Transformer movie sequel stories starting in December of this year, 'So it will pick up where the movie left off, introduce some new characters, use some of the movie's characters and just kind of continue the storyline,' Ryall said. 'Similar with what Marvel did with Star Wars back in the 70s, just with fewer giant green rabbits like they had.'

Last, IDW's Star Trek six-issue alien spotlight series that launches in September will wrap up with master artist John Burns writing and illustrating the Romulan story.
