World War Hulk #3 crawled back to the top of the charts in August after losing to Thor #1 last month, posting a number only slightly below sales on #2.  Over 5200 copies of World War Hulk #1 and over 7700 copies of World War Hulk #2 were also sold in August.  Thor held up well in August, with over 108,000 copies sold of #3 (featuring 2 covers; 50/50 ratio) and nearly 29,000 copies of #2.

The #2 position was taken by Justice League #12 (featuring 2 covers; 50/50 ratio), which concluded Brad Meltzer's run on the title, sold better than the previous issue.  Marvel's Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born was down a bit on the final issue, but still a solid #3.

Countdown sales were up substantially in August, in a generally down month at the top of the charts.

Marvel had nine of the top ten books, with DC taking 10 of the top 25 (five of those were Countdown issues).

We are estimating actual sales by Diamond U.S. (primarily to North American comic stores), using Diamond's published sales indexes and publisher sales data to estimate a sales number for Batman (the anchor title Diamond uses in its calculations), and using that number and the indexes to estimate Diamond's sales on the remaining titles.  We can check the accuracy of our numbers by comparing the Batman number that we calculate using multiple data points; our numbers for Batman are within 1/10 of 1% of each other, ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
