There are now more televised award shows than political commercials currently airing in battleground states.  Spike TV, a cable and satellite network targeting the young male demographic, has its own proprietary kudos, which it calls “The Scream Awards.”  Despite the name, horror movies are only one of the many types of genre films receiving nominations for the Scream Awards, which celebrate action films in general and comic-based movies in particular.  Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight received 21 nominations, while Iron Man nabbed 14 and Hellboy II: The Golden Army was right behind with 13.

Fans will be able to vote for their favorites on the Spike TV Website from October 12th through the 17th and the awards show itself will be broadcast on the Spike TV network on October 21st.  In addition to innovative categories such as “The Holy S**t! Scene of the Year,”  “Most Memorable Mutilation,” and “Most Shocking Comic Book Twist,” the Scream categories also include “Best Comic Book” (Astonishing X-Men, Hack/Slash, LOEG: Black Dossier, The Umbrella Academy, The Walking Dead, Y: The Last Man), “Best Comic Book Movie (30 Days of Night, The Dark Knight, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Wanted), “Best Comic Artist” (Gabriel Ba, Darwyn Cooke, Pia Guerra, Jim Lee, Joe Quesada, Alex Ross), and “Best Comic Book Writer” (Warren Ellis, Robert Kirkman, Mike Mignola, Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Brian K. Vaughan).
