Marvel COO Bill Jemas' latest remarks about small retailers, in an upcoming Marvel book (see 'Comic Wars Heat Up'), made Don Bunning of Hobby Horse Comics in Decatur, Illinois want to talk about the Marvel policy that raises the most ire among retailers.

Bill Jemas seems to be burning more bridges than he can build. I, for one, think that Marvel is shooting themselves in the foot with this ridiculous 'no-reprint' policy. In my store, I have seen many customers stop buying Marvel products altogether because they missed an issue here or there. It is often difficult to explain, when they ask, why they cannot get that current Marvel issue that they missed via a reorder like they can most other product.

Marvel makes these deals with Wal-Mart, at the expense of the relationship with the small retailer. Sure, I can see why they would go for the quick buck. Problem is they still need the small retailer whether they like it or not. Who do they think is going to sell their Max line--Wal-Mart? Not likely.

Right now I would recommend Crossgen comics before I would Marvel products.
