The Hollywood trades are reporting that Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are planning to produce a reboot of the classic police series Hawaii Five-0 for CBS.  Peter Lenkov, an executive producer on CSI: NY, will write the pilot under the watchful eyes of Orci and Kurtzman, and Lenkov will function as the series’ showrunner if the pilot gets picked up.  Like the original Five-0, the new series will be filmed in Hawaii.  The original series spun-off a fair amount of merchandise including record albums and novels.

Kurtzman and Orci, who burned up the big screen this summer with their screenplays for Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, also have considerable experience in television.  They created and produced the hit Fox sci-fi series Fringe (along with J.J. Abrams).
