According to a recent article in The Hollywood Reporter the Spider-Man musical might have found the financial backing that it sorely needs.  The article named James Stern, who has backed shows like Hairspray and Hair as well as the hot new indie movie An Education, and Norton Herrick, a New Jersey real estate mogul and producer of the Renee Zellweger film, My One and Only as the show's new backers.  With the cost of mounting Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark said to exceed $45 million, the show is in desperate need of new angels since the financial troubles of backer David Garfinkle put the show in jeopardy (see “Spider-Man Play Shut Down”).

But while James Stern, who co-directed the recent documentary about A Chorus Line, Every Little Step, told MTV that he “loves the show,” and thinks “the score is brilliant,” he also added that he was sure whether or not he would be involved in the show.  So the fate of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark remains in doubt.  Stay tuned for further details.
