Yen Press has announced that it will adapt the first three novels in James Patterson’s Daniel X series into manga.  Yen, which has scored a major hit this year with a manga version of Patterson’s Maximum Ride, has commissioned veteran Korean artist Seung-hui Kye to illustrate the Daniel X manga.  Kye has published 13 volumes of manhwa in his native Korea.  Kye’s adaptation of the Daniel X novels will appear first in the Yen Plus manga anthology, and will then be collected into individual volumes, with the first book due out in the summer of 2010.

The protagonist of the Young Adult Daniel X series is a 15-year-old alien hunter whose parents have been murdered.  His legacy is a purple list of aliens that he must hunt down.  Daniel, it turns out is an alien himself, endowed with a most interesting superpower, the ability to create things by thinking about them.  The first volume in the superhero-themed Daniel X series, The Dangerous Days of Daniel X, has been optioned for the big screen by New Regency Productions.
