Mandalay Pictures has acquired the rights to Mark Sable’s think tank thriller, Unthinkable, which is published by Boom! Studios. The high concept terrorism saga involves a genius recruited to a government think tank after 9/11 where his job is to conceive of the most deadly types of attacks that could be made on the U.S. Several years after the think tank is dissolved, the attacks he conceived start to happen—he is the one guy who might be able to anticipate and stop the new wave of terrorism, but only if he can shake the government agents who are convinced that he is involved.
Last May Unthinkable creator Mark Sable was detained by TSA officers at Los Angeles International Airport who discovered the script for Unthinkable #1 (see “Comic Writer Detained by TSA”). Sable, who was on his way to a signing at Jim Hanley’s Universe in New York City, was forced to undergo interrogations at two extra levels of security before being allowed to continue.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Gruber and Cathy Schulman are producing for Mandalay, which typically develops its projects in-house before setting up financing and distribution.
