Kevin Grevioux, the co-creator of the Underworld film franchise, is teaming up with Patrick Tatopoulos, the director of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, on a new film project based on Grevioux’s forthcoming I, Frankenstein comic book series from Darkstorm Comics.

The project is not a reboot of the classic monster franchises, but a whole new take on some of the most popular horror characters in history—doing to classic horror franchises, what Who Killed Roger Rabbit? did to animated characters.  I, Frankenstein takes the classic public domain literary monsters such as Frankenstein’s Monster, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Invisible Man and Dracula and puts them together in a noirish contemporary urban setting, the Gotham-like city of Darkhaven.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Frankenstein’s Monster has become a Raymond Chandler-esque private detective, while Dracula is the crime kingpin of the Darkhaven metropolis.

Death Ray Films, founded by film industry veterans, Chris Patton, Robert Sanchez, and Kevin Munroe (TMNT) began developing the project last April.  Lakeshore, the production and financing firm behind the Underworld series, has acquired the screen rights to property from Death Ray.
