Rise of the Apes, a prequel to Planet of the Apes, will be released on June 24, 2011, according to Hollywood Reporter.  CGI apes created by WETA Digital will replace the costumed and made-up actors of past POTA films, according to the report. 

The film will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist). 

The film will tell a story in which “man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.”
