The debut of DC Comics’ Brightest Day event (and the fact that Marvel’s key event miniseries Siege title was delayed until May) allowed DC to close the gap with Marvel to under 9% in dollar sales in April (down from 14.7% in March).  As the race between the top two tightened, the battle among the mid-tier publishers continued to heat up.  Dark Horse took the lead with 4.88% of dollar sales, followed by Image with 3.96% of the dollars (Image, which depends more on sales of lower cost periodical comics, outdistanced Dark Horse 4.26% to 3.82% in unit sales).  Image had the #15 comic title, a $1 reprint of The Walking Dead #1 that sold over 59,000 copies.

IDW Publishing was just a hair behind Image in dollar sales with 3.92% followed by Dynamite Entertainment at 2.33%, BOOM! Studios with 1.58%, and Viz Media with 1.56%.
