Fox’s adaptation of Jeff Kinney’s bestselling quasi-graphic novel Diary of a Wimpy Kid was made for $15 million and earned over $61.5 million at the box office. So it comes as no surprise that the studio has set March 25th, 2011 as the debut date for a sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules. Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah are adapting the second book in Kinney’s hugely successful series. The studio has not announced a director for the project and there is no word yet on which actors will be back to reprise their roles in the sequel.
Sales of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books in bookstores received a boost when the movie hit theaters and more silver screen exposure can only help this continuing series of semi-graphic novels, which should also get a bounce from the release of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid DVD later this year.
