Moonstone Books and Captain Action Enterprises, LLC announced the launch of their new series Savage Beauty, a contemporary re-imaging of the jungle comic genre. The creation of Ed Catto, Joe Ahearn and Mike Bullock, it concerns sisters Lacy and Livvy Rae who while working as journalists in Africa assume the identity of their goddess Anaya to battle such real-world menaces as Ugandan warlords, Somali pirates and corrupt politicians.

Savage Beauty #1 includes the first Savage Beauty story written by Mike Bullock and drawn by Jose Massaroli along with a Sheena, Queen of the Jungle reprint from Jumbo Comics #99, “The Eyes of a Killer Cat” with art by Robert H. Webb.  Special features include lost promotional art from an unmade jungle girl movie from the 1960’s featuring Raquel Welch as well as a Golden Age cover gallery.

It’s scheduled for a February 2011 release, at 48 pages with a cover price of $2.99.

An ashcan edition of Savage Beauty #1 will be available at the Captain Action booth at the New York Comic-Con for $1.00.
