Ilan Strasser of Fat Moose Comics and Games in Whippany, New Jersey comments on the recent news of DC Comics rolling back the cover price of their comic books (see "DC Lowering Comic Prices in 2011").
DC's rollback of prices is a great start in helping to stop the flow of fans out of our stores. Marvel's announcing a similar, if not exact, policy change is notable in that it is reactive instead of proactive, something the entire industry has been for many years in regards to it's problems. Still, Marvel is to be lauded for following, even if they are not leading, some sort of positive change.
Personally, I would have preferred 40 periodical pages with 30 pages of story and art, 2 editorial pages including 1 letters page, and 8 pages of advertising for $2.99. The books were so overpriced to begin with--it's just a shame that to get back to $2.99 with some of the titles that DC decided that with those specific titles it was necessary to cut content. But it's a positive start and hopefully DC and Marvel will continue to look at their business models and overhaul their approach to providing even more--increasing their profitability and growing their business while providing added quality and real value to their customers.
