Ken McClure, 57, who owned and operated Legends Comics & Cards in St. Louis for two decades, was found murdered on Tuesday three hours after he failed to show up for a 9am court hearing.  McClure’s life began to spiral out of control after he was charged with the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl. The crime allegedly took place at the comic book shop where McClure lived in the basement.  On October 28th McClure held a gun to his head in a tense three-hour stand-off with police who had come to arrest him on the rape charge.  McClure declared his “absolute complete innocence” in the rape case.  He had recently withdrawn thousands of dollars from his retirement funds to pay for bail and finance his legal defense against rape charge.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the police are certain that McClure was murdered.  On the morning he was murdered he called his attorney to say that he was having car trouble and would be late for the hearing.  After he was killed, his black Camaro was seen leaving the scene of the crime and was later recovered by police in St. Louis.

McClure’s nephew Sonny McClure told the Post-Dispatch that McClure had given him the comic shop on Friday.  Sonny received a phone call from his uncle on Tuesday morning instructing him to go to the shop.  At the shop he found a handwritten note from his uncle asking him to sell the Camaro, and ending with the phrase, “Love you, stay strong for me.”
