Jay Bardyla approves of the choice made to hold the second Free Comic Book Day the first weekend in May 2003, when the second X-Men movie is released (see 'FCBD Retailer Poll Results Announced'), but feels that the industry should look at a different weekend as the permanent choice.

While I'm happy that my voice (vote) was heard, I still have a concern over the date of Free Comic Book Day.  What happens when we have a year with no comic book themed movie?  In my opinion, FCBD is excellent and I will participate every year no matter what but it's too bad we didn't pick a day closer to Halloween.

Think of it, comics instead of candy, only two months before Christmas and a kick off heading into one of the weakest sales periods of the year (January to March).  While it's current date is a great way to lead into summer sales, summer doesn't need help, post Christmas does.

I'm not sure if it's too late to change minds (and I don't think now is a good time) but maybe in the future when May opening weekend is lacking some Four Coloured force at the Box Office, we can consider another consistent option, the Saturday before Halloween.
