Collector toy company employee Mike Drake read the recent article on the Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark musical being delayed (see "'Spider-Man' Pushed Back") and had this to say.

I must take issue with that 98% sale rate.  Considering how many shows they have canceled, and that each audience member then gets tickets for another show, the "sale" rate is being inflated.  For example:  Show A sells 100% of tickets.  Show B sells 100% of tickets.  Show C Sells 0%.  This would be a 66% sell through rate.  Now use the same numbers but cancel Show A.  Give the people with tickets for Show A tickets for Show C.  Are they calculating this as 100% sold?  Technically all the seats would be filled... but not with people who actually purchased tickets for that day.

As a longtime theatergoer I can say with some authority that once they finally catch up with the sales from the cancelled shows (they canceled yet another show this past Wednesday) the attendance will drop, the same thing happened with The Addams Family (which I enjoyed and recommend to others).
