Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in Superman I-IV, will appear in a Smallville episode set to air on the WB on February 25. He will play Dr. Swann, a scientist who offers young Clark Kent a big piece of the puzzle regarding his origins. This may be the first appearance of Swann as a recurring character. This sweeps appearance of the actor most closely associated with Superman can only boost Smallville ratings beyond their already lofty heights (see 'Smallville Ratings Setting Records'). Among products available for retailers looking for ways to capitalize on the increased attention are the DC Direct action figures and the Inkworks Smallville Season One Premium Trading Cards.
